About

Brett Dickerson is a public school teacher of 15 years now teaching in an alternative school in the Oklahoma City metro area where his colleagues chose him as this year's site Teacher of the Year.

He is a National Board Certified Teacher who has a strong sense of teaching as a profession and a practice that is honed and sharpened over years of experience and interaction with students, colleagues, parents, and principals.  He has taught nearly all of the Social Studies subjects; but, has the most experience with U.S. History, U.S. Government and Geography.

Brett has served in various leadership roles such as President of the Oklahoma Council for the Social Studies, U.S. History PLC Leader and Key Club Faculty Advisor (both at his previous site).  He is now the Curriculum Coordinator for his site.

Believing strongly in the value of extended time away from the classroom routine, he has leveraged that time each summer by attending various week-long training events across the nation.

He has been a proud, career-long member and booster of whatever union was the bargaining agent for the teachers in his district.  Currently, he is on his local's Executive Board, and on the Oklahoma Education Association Collective Bargaining Committee.

Previous to his 15 years as a teacher, Brett was a United Methodist minister, where he had many good experiences in faith and life with a wonderful rainbow of people.  From time to time he was resented for his rabble-rousing ways and proclivity for blunt speech.
